                             CLASSES

JANUARY
=======

"Fitting Solutions"
http://www.nobhillfabrics.com/classes/Fitting_Solutions.html

3-hour session by Leslie Ashcraft cost - $45 class size limited to 6

Saturday, January 28th, 9:30-12:30.

Are you tired of buying pattern after pattern, searching for "the one" that actually
fits? Or, have you stopped sewing for yourself entirely because your garments gap
open at the center front or hang like muumuus? This fitting class has been created
exclusively to help women identify what has changed about their maturing female
forms and how those changes are reflected in the fit of their garments. (For this
session, we will concentrate mainly on the female form from the waist up.) After
this class, you will know what has been causing your fitting disasters and what
pattern alterations are necessary to prevent any more.

Supply list:

Sewing machine, thread, pins, scissors and cloth tape measure.

4 yards of 45" or 60" white muslin fabric, an indelible sharpie marker, a quilter’s
straightedge and a jacket pattern of your choice.  (Be realistic about your size;
alterations are easier if you're somewhat close. Keep in mind that for purposes of
creating a well-fitting, structured jacket, darting and princess lines are your
friends!)

NOTE: If you plan to take the next "Jackets" class, please use Butterick 5687:
	http://butterick.mccall.com/b5687-products-14759.php?page_id=147

With the help of the teacher, you will recognize your figure challenges, alter your
jacket pattern accordingly and begin preparing a jacket muslin.

A $25 deposit is required to hold your place.
Please contact Leslie at 505-281-5993 to sign up.

"Tricks of the Trade – (Or Avoiding that "Homemade" Look)".
http://www.nobhillfabrics.com/classes/tips_and_tricks.html

3-hour session by Leslie Ashcraft cost - $45 class size limited to 6

Saturday, January 28th, 1:30-4:30.

This class will introduce and demonstrate a variety of construction techniques that
will result in professional looking garments, as well as make your sewing projects
easier to manage. We will discuss interfacings, underlining, different kinds of
linings, an easy, fool-proof method of bound buttonhole construction, "bagging
garments", dart etiquette, hidden zipper application, sleeve setting theory,
perfect collar points and pressing basics. Students are encouraged to bring up
their own construction concerns during class. The teacher will attempt to address
as many as possible.

Bring your sewing machine with dark thread. We will be making samples of some of
the techniques to take home and refer to later. (Muslin and zippers supplied by
teacher.)

A $25 deposit is required to hold your place.
Please contact Leslie at 505-281-5993 to sign up.

FEBRUARY
========

"Versatile All-in-One-Piece Garment Design"

Cost: $60
Instructor: Laurie Lange
Class size limited to 5

Saturday,  February 11th,  10:00-2:00

Skill level:  confident beginner, intermediate.
Expert sewers wishing to explore pattern design are also welcome.

This class will acquaint you with a simple yet sophisticated pattern from ancient
Persia that can be made into a tunic, top or jacket with just one continuous
underarm/midriff seam. Unlike other one-piece patterns, this pattern is capable
of the fit that separate fitted pattern pieces create.

We will discuss how the weave and drape of fabric contributes to fit.  You will
get a pattern diagram, learn how to dimension the piece for your body and shape
the one seam for the style you want.  Instructor will demonstrate seam finishes
and neck facing, hemming, cuff and front placket depending on participants'
interests.  Expect to come away with a design cut out and ready for finishing
when you get home.

Bring a washed fabric piece about 54"x 54" (45" x45" will do for short sleeve,
waist length garment),  scissors, measuring tape, pins and pencil.

Contact Laurie at 505.220.2726 for more info and to sign up.
